RURAL LIBRARY PROJECT
Western Equality maintains a lending library with nearly 1000 titles of interest to our members and the community at-large. Our collection includes a wide array of both fiction and non-fiction titles, videos, and more.

Categories include cultural/historic, humor, political, poetry, relationships, and religious/spiritual. Our video library also contains a wide array of topics, including political and documentary films.

To browse the collection stop by our office. Members can check out materials, and the public is welcome to review materials in our office.

SAFE ZONES and YOUTH/PEER SUPPORT GROUP for GLBT Young People
In response to requests from counselors, case managers, and community members Western Equality has teamed with other local service organizations to develop programs and services for LGBT youth and their allies.

Safe Zones
Currently there are two designated "Safe Zones" for GLBT youth in the Grand Valley. These organizations proudly display our Safe Zone poster and offer all young people a safe, alcohol/drug/violence free environment to hang out.

The Tree House and Teen Bistro

The Tree House and Bistro is an empowerment program geared toward high school youth, offering activities that are drug, alcohol and violence free, as well as an opportunity for youth to have a voice and realize they can make a difference.

The Kids Kabana provides middle school youth a safe haven and supervised on-site activities.

Youth/Peer Support Group
A young persons LGBTA support and educational group is evolving. The group meets Tuesday evenings and is open to all high school age youth.

GRAND VALLEY RESOURCE DIRECTORY for LGBT Community
Western Equality's AmeriCorps staff members are busy at work developing a comprehensive directory of businesses and professionals on the Western Slope who are open and willing to include LGBT people in their practices. This will include spiritual, mental health, medical, law enforcement, and legal providers. The project will be ongoing and evolving as we canvas the Grand Valley.

Referral information for faith, medical, legal, and mental health providers is now available and may be obtained by stopping in or calling our office.

CONFIDENTIALLY REPORT A HATE CRIME
Western Equality is now equipped to handle hate crimes reports, and in cooperation with the Colorado Anti-Violence Program, provide a better response with law enforcement so that we are not left out of the justice system. The toll-free number for the Colorado Anti-Violence Program, 24/7, is 1(888)557-4441, and Western Equality's number is (970)242-8949. No crime against us is too small to ignore. Together we will educate, support and provide resources to make our communities safer for all.
