News from One Colorado

One Colorado announced the hiring of Heidi Hess to the position of the Western Slope civic organizer. They are looking at opening an office in the Center for Independence. Heidi will be our direct line to information on what is going on around the state to help the LGBTQ community gain equal rights within the state.

Heidi was instrumental in organizing a group to drive to Denver for LGBT lobby day at the capital. She also organized a group to attend the Senate hearing on the bill for civil unions. Two of the attendees from the western slope gave testimony for this bill. The bill was passed by a vote of 6 to 3. Now the bill will move onto the senate budget office for review before coming to a vote in the Senate. The bill will then go to the house for a vote. Please call your representatives and let them know how you feel on this issue.
