Western Equality is growing

Western Equality has expanded the office. We have moved the main office into another three rooms next to our current office. The current office space has been turned into a drop in center. This is something the Board has been discussing for many years now. This will give a comfortable space to come and hang out and not feel like you are in the way of the day to day running of Western Equality.

The new space is open and gowing it is made up of three offices, Reception, Director and One Colorado. The computer lab is almost ready and these computers can be used by the public. If you need to do homework, job applications or just surf these computers are for you to use.

This is only possible because Western Equality has been working a Bingo session for the last three months. We are doing well and encourage everyone to come and volunteer or play. The Thursday 1 PM group is a lot of fun.

Seeking New Board Members

Western Equality is still seeking a few more board members from the community. The board involves a few hours each month. The board is open to LGBTQ and allies. You do not need any previous experience just come and help Western Equality support the community. If you are interested in joining the Western Equality Board feel free to attend a board meeting. They are held on the second Tuesday of each month. The location is at the office at 6 PM to 7 PM. If you would like to join please fill out an application that can be downloaded by clicking here.

Western Equality helps Homeward Bound.

Each year Homeward Bound the homeless shelter and Grand Valley Peace and Justice works with local agencies to provide the homeless with extra space for the many local homeless. This homeless overflow is hosted at each site for two weeks. Western Equality was asked if we would provide overnight housing for these men. We started with 20 men on December 11 and will continue to house them until the morning of December 25 Christmas Morning. This gives us a chance to give back to our community and to help others in time of need. The men arrive each evening at 7pm and they are picked up by Homeward Bound at 7 am. Each morning we have the privilege of feeding them for their day of work or wandering around the town. If you are interested in assisting us please contact the office.

Bingo has arrived at Western Equality

Western Equality is playing Bingo at the Gold Mine Bingo Hall. Western Equality will begin hosting a session of bingo at 1 PM on Thursday's starting on Thanksgiving Day. The money that is made at each session of Bingo will help us move forward with our Youth Program and enable us to do more community outreach. If you are interested in helping work on Thursday's please contact the office. Please tell you family and friends to come and play bingo with Western Equality.

LGBTQ Youth Group.

One thing that the Board has been focusing on over the last year is getting a Youth Program up and running. The Youth Group will be meeting on the first and third saturdays of each month at 2 pm in the Western Equality office. If you are interested in attending join us and bring your friends. The first meeting was a meet and greet and then the Youth worked on a plan for how the group will progress. You can contact the office for more information at info@westernequality.org

Call for Event Planning Volunteers

Soon Western Equality will be planning next year's events. There are three major events each year Masqueerade, Pride Fest West and Out Fest. Planning these events take many people with new ideas. If you are one of these talented individuals with some great ideas and a few extra hours per month please contact the Western Equality office at volunteer@westernequality.org Remember many hands make light work. We have always pulled together and gotten much done.

Western Equality Board has developed a new 4 year work plan

On August 13 2011 the Board of Western Equality spent all day working on the next 4 year work plan. What this means is we have developed a plan of what direction Western Equality will be taking over the next 4 years. There is a lot planned and as usual we cannot accomplish this without the help of each and every one of you. This plan when finalized will be placed on the web site so that everyone can see what we will be working on. It is the hope of the board that you will get involved and help grow Western Equality.

Volunteers >>>

Western Equality is looking for a few volunteers. We now have a board member that has the pleasure of maintaining a list of people willing to help. If you have a spare hour or two then feel free to find out when and where you are needed. A few of the things can be done in the office such as filling, newsletter mailings, cleaning, organizing, computer related work, making phone calls to help maintain the resource directory. We need help with event planning, coordination, setup, as well as, closure or post-event equipment collapse to return it to our storage facilities after the events are completed. More volunteers are needed to assist us in saving time and money associated with providing community events.

Some things may even be done at your home. If you have any special skills that would come in handy please let us know. A new email system has been established just for our volunteers. volunteer@westernequality.org
